Praying for Your Volunteers by Name

Every ministry leader says volunteers matter. The calendar usually says otherwise. Recruiting gets our energy, scheduling gets our tools, and prayer gets what's left.

A ten-minute practice

Take your volunteer roster. Divide it by five. Pray for one group each weekday. By name, out loud if you can. Not "bless the team," but "You know what this week holds for Susan."

Leaders who build this habit report two changes within a month. First, their conversations shift: you talk differently with people you have prayed for. Second, their retention problems soften. Not because prayer is a retention strategy, but because people can tell when they are led by someone who carries them.

The multiplication effect

Now teach your coordinators to do the same for their teams. A church where every leader prays for the people they lead has built something no volunteer-appreciation banquet can buy.

Small intentional changes produce lasting results. This is one of the smallest. And one of the most lasting.
